Me, her sisters, and her children love her, miss her, and think of her daily.

Too many to tell...

We will miss her crazy ways...

She would want her children to know she never stopped fighting..
She loved them.

Desiree was hilarious, loyal and beautiful. She was my best friend since I was 13. She was good mom and an amazing friend.

There are too many to count. We spent half our lives together. I think the day I met her is my favorite memory of her. Within 3 days of knowing each other she basically lived with me and my family.

I miss her laugh, her sense of humor and everything about her.

Although she was taken too soon, she saved many lives by being an organ donor. She was one of the funniest people I ever met and she loved her children with ferocity.

Michael “Mikey” Emile Wofford

Age 25
Mikey was the People's Champ
Age 25

All it took was one moment of breathing the same air to fall in love with Mikey.  His mere presence touched others in a way that was extraordinary; it was as if he knew how to comfort your heart without you ever revealing why it was unsettled in the first place. You laughed, you marveled, you shook your head, and then you wanted more!  He was the purest source of light, that emanated from a spirit who found true joy in being a real friend, without expecting anything in return.

For most of us, it was being on the receiving end of that infectious smile that gave him the ability to light up a room and warm your heart, and if you were on the receiving end of his "I love you more" goodbye, you knew you were blessed.

Because he offered himself so honestly, his spirit indiscriminately reached unsuspecting people, regardless of their walk of life.  He shined during those random interactions, they were his muse/thing...there are now some vacant corners in the hearts of '25 years’ worth of fellow travelers, beneficiaries of his accepting, loving light.  For this truly incalculable segment of the population, we are left with memories of a gifted kid, whose invocation manages yet to still bear its trademark fruit -  joy, incredulity, laughs, hope... we remain still yearning for more.

For those, even the luckier ones who got to ALSO know Mikey, the man - confidante, inspiration, partner - there is no substitute.  No replacement for the role he selflessly embraced in our lives.  There is only the consolation that he is now being rewarded for his unconditional service and love to us with eternal peace.

Mikey would like to be remembered as someone who loved without condition and tried every day to share that love with his family, friends, and strangers.

We are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and overwhelming support of family and friends.  Gifts made in loving memory of Mikey have enabled a donation of $90,997.6 to Shatterproof. We know for certain that each of your gifts will impact the lifesaving work and programs of Shatterproof - ultimately reversing the addiction crisis that we each know all too well.

He was so loving and could make the hardest days better with just a look. The love of my life. A great father the man that gave me our daughters. I'll forever hold you in my heart. Till we meet again my love. Always forever baby. Miss you so much 💞

When you would play with the kids teaching them to build things change a tire play baseball and always making us laugh. Always taking care of us making sure we had everything we needed.

Your smile the way you could tell what was on my mind and I didnt have to say a word the way youd hold me tight when you hugged me and the way you would write on the kids face to get them to fall asleep and how you made us feel so safe. Your touch your smell and my god your kiss. The way you walked. The way you would pick us flowers every time you found one. Joe was born with a purpose in life; to bring love and joy to the lives of those he met along the way. He took the burden from those he loved and carried their pain for them. Most importantly, he loved his family first.

My favorite memory was when he Joe was born. He came into the world with his eyes wide open and a hospital waiting room full of family & friends waiting to see him. It was one big party that day on 8/31/1990 and it stayed that way his entire 27 years of life. He lived every day as if it were his last, making friends, helping people, loving with his huge heart and smiling at the world in front of him.

His laugh and his smile and the touch of his arms hugging me, and his kisses on my forehead as I slept. Him telling me I love you Momma or hearing him tell his sisters or dad I love you. His compliments and acknowledgment of anything I had bought new. His coffee runs and laughter as he always brought back the wrong flavor. His stories that could last sometimes longer than 30 minutes. Mostly, our long chats about life and plans of the future and ending our convos with “we will always be a team.”

Joe was LOVE. He loved his family first and strong. He gave love, embraced love, and loved everything life had to offer. There was a sense of calmness and peace when in his presence. He loved music, art, and fashion, always the trendsetter. He listened attentively and could make someone feel as if they were the only person in a room when talking to him. Joe made every day brighter and better. He had a certain kind of “vibe” and he shared that vibe with everyone who loved him. He’s Always Here.
