National Save a Life Day: Carry Naloxone. Be Ready to Help

On September 24, communities across the country will come together for National Save a Life Day, a nationwide day of action focused on expanding access to naloxone and giving more people the tools to respond to an opioid overdose. 

Naloxone is a safe, FDA-approved medication that can quickly reverse an opioid overdose. It’s easy to use, widely available, and carrying it can mean being prepared to help a friend, family member, neighbor, or stranger in an emergency. 

Save a Life Day began as a grassroots effort in West Virginia and has grown into a national movement. In 2025 alone, communities distributed approximately 133,000 doses of naloxone in a single day. 

This National Save a Life Day, there are simple ways you can take action: 

• Find an event near you. Visit savealife.day to find a Save a Life Day event in your community where free naloxone will be distributed. 

• Learn how to use it. Click here to learn the signs of an overdose and how to administer naloxone. This information will help you respond confidently in an emergency. 

• Carry naloxone. Like an EpiPen or inhaler, naloxone is an emergency response tool worth having nearby when it’s needed.
