Caroline Davidson, Vice President of State Engagement for ATLAS
Working with ATLAS has shown me that our community is resilient, filled with hope, and willing to face each day head-on.

Before joining Shatterproof, I worked in insurance payments and policy and prior to that, I was an HIV and Hep-C Test Counselor. I was seven months into my own addiction recovery when I joined Shatterproof. Working with ATLAS has shown me that our community is resilient, filled with hope, and willing to face each day head-on. Throughout my four years here, I have enjoyed meeting other people in recovery and discussing my journey with coworkers and stakeholders.
Equally important, it is amazing seeing how many people want ATLAS in their state. When I talk to stakeholders, they always say, "This is so exciting, we need this. Thank you for letting us know about it." I am delighted that people are using ATLAS's website, treatmentatlas.org.
Our goal is to gradually roll out ATLAS nationwide and we are getting closer and closer. It is a testament to how much this platform has helped people, and its potential to reach many more. Our desired impact is to provide more people with access to science-based care regardless of where they live in the nation.
We expect to reach half of the United States population within two and a half years. At present, we are in serious discussions with treatment providers, government programs, and community leaders in several states, which would bring our total to about 17 states by 2023. Although some of the impact may not be immediate, it is exciting to be a part of something that ultimately sets the standard for quality addiction treatment.
I believe in treating people with kindness and compassion and providing them with the help they need. In the addiction treatment world, my hope is that people are treated nonjudgmentally, especially if they do not want treatment, but have been contemplating it. It is vital to give people space and compassion so they can decide if treatment is right for them.
Ultimately, ATLAS, gives people a choice. I live in New York, and I have friends who live in New York City and in New York State. If they ever have issues with addiction, I know where to send them. This is a powerful feeling.
