I am a gay, sober man living in Boston, Massachusetts. Being gay and sober hasn’t always been an easy journey.
The gay world is intertwined with drinking and drugging from the jump. As a young queer making my way into the gay scene, I was more than happy to dive in headfirst with drugs and alcohol.
It made me feel accepted and took the edge off being social in a room full of people. I have always been anxious, and alcohol and drugs took that anxiety away and made me the life of the party.
I had to figure out how to be social and fun without drugs or alcohol. I am extremely fortunate that I have a fantastic support system of wonderful people who helped guide me through.
I was swept up by sober gays who had been sober for many years who showed me that we can still do anything and everything we did while using, sober.
They showed me that life only gets better after you decide to leave your addiction life behind and embrace sobriety. I am so grateful to all those people in my community who stood by me as I got my legs back.
My sober family is the reason I am here today living my truth and loving my life. Out of that group of people came my organization Sober Gay Sunday; a sober social group for members of the LGBTQIA+ community in recovery.
I am so proud to have started this amazing organization and so proud of the people that fight along side me in the fight against addiction. I also have a podcast by the same name available every where you listen to podcasts! Just search “Sober Gay Sunday.”
