Addiction is one of the most misunderstood illnesses there is.

Misinformation, shame, judgment, and stereotypes often cloud our ability to see substance use disorders clearly. But all that can be unlearned.

Substance use disorder is a medical illness, just like diabetes or depression. It can be prevented, and when it’s treated effectively, recovery is not just possible, it’s probable.

People coping with their own or a loved one’s addiction often feel scared and confused. But knowledge is power.

There are ways to keep people with addiction safe and healthy, there are ways to prevent overdoses, and there are countless effective pathways to recovery.

This year, resolve to be informed and learn about addiction. In the Learn section of shatterproof.org, you'll find all kinds of useful information about the science of addiction, effective treatment approaches, how to keep loved ones who use drugs safe, and more.
